Pelican Pub & Brewery to aid NW Medical Teams in Tsunami Disaster
Giving percent of Tsunami Stout sales to NW Medical.

January 3, 2005 - In response to the disaster in Asia, the Pelican Pub & Brewery will be donating 10% of Tsunami Stout sales to Northwest Medical Teams International, a charity based in
Portland
. “We felt that we had to do something to help,” said Donn Brouhard, General Manager of the pub. “With 10% of every Tsunami Stout sale going to Northwest Medical Teams, we’re hoping to raise a significant sum. We also want to draw attention to this great organization and the urgent work they do around the world.”
Northwest Medical has volunteer teams in
Thailand
,
Sri Lanka
and
Indonesia
. A $5 million shipment of medicine and medical supplies left Northwest Medical’s Tigard headquarters for Sri Lanka December 30th. Additionally, Northwest Medical has donated $10,000 to its India-based partner, Emanuel Hospital Association.

have suffered horrendous losses in this disaster,” says Bas Vanderzalm, president of Northwest Medical Teams. “Helping
India
through our partner and sending our own teams to the other countries gives our volunteers and donors an opportunity to help all countries in most need,” he says.
“Northwest Medical Teams volunteers are trying to avert a second disaster lives lost because of the outbreak of disease,” says Vanderzalm. “We are pouring medicines and volunteers into the most affected areas to save lives and to reduce the spread of communicable disease."
Tsunami Stout has been a cornerstone beer for the pub since 1996. The Pelican Pub & Brewery’s fund raising efforts will run from January 1st through the end of March.
