Something's Brewing in Pacific City

Pacific City, Long time home of the historic dory fishing fleet, is now home to Tillamook County's first and only microbrewery. The Pelican Pub & Brewery is located on the oceanfront at Cape Kiwanda. This beautiful new restaurant has spectacular views of Haystack Rock and Cape Kiwanda. Pelican Pub & Brewery features a 15-barrel custom copperclad brew house that can brew 450 gallons of beer per batch and is in full view from the pub entrance. The copper and stainless steel brewing and fermenting vessels are visible from the main bar and restaurant. Tours of the brewhouse are available.
Head brewer, Darron Welch said, "I use all local malts. I use hops that are northwest grown and yeast from a lab in Hood River. This is truly a Northwest product."
The Pelican Pub's house brews include Kiwanda Cream Ale, described as light in color, with a spicy and floral hop aroma; Heiferweizen, an unfiltered wheat brew with a gentle, mellow flavor and a mild, smooth finish; MacPelican Scottish Ale, coppery amber in color and featuring a rich malty aroma; Doryman's Dark Ale, which has a balanced aroma of roasted malts and Oregon-grown hops; and Tsunami Stout, midnight black in color and full body and a dense creamy head.
"We use no artificial carbonation," Welch said. "The ingredients we use are all natural, with no preservatives or additives. It's beer as beer was meant to be."
The pub offer 3, 5 or 15-gallon kegs for sale, or patrons can choose to purchase a "growler" for $9.00, a 36 ounce resealable brown bottle filled with their choice of brews. The "growler" (or any resealable, clean container) can be returned and refilled anytime for $4.50.
