Pelican Pub Earns Award
The Florence area Chamber of Commerce's first annual "Chowder, Blues and Brews" Fall Festival was held Sept. 20, 21 and 22 at the Florence Events Center.
The festival featured food pavilions a chowder cook off, great live blues music featuring nationally acclaimed blues artist Curtis Salgado, and participation by four coastal microbreweries.
The Pelican Pub and Brewery, located on the ocean front at Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City, was awarded the People's Choice Award, for excellence in brewing, by a vote of the more than 3,000 festival participants. The Pelican Pub's "MacPelican's Scottish Ale" was chosen by the festival attendees as the best beer among all the styles presented by the microbreweries.
Pelican Pub's Head Brewer Darron Welch said, "It is our goal at the Pelican Pub, to create great American craft beers uncompromised in flavor, freshness and purity. We had a great time at the festival and hope to participate next year."
The Pelican Pub is also getting involved in promoting education by donating pizzas as achievement awards, which will be given to students by Nestucca Valley Grade School.
The Pelican Pub will donate 13 pizzas per month throughout the school year to Nestucca Valley Grade School that will be awarded to students for achievement.
"Each of the school's 13 classroom teachers will have a pizza to use to reward a student for improved grades, reading achievements, citizenship or any other area the individual teachers feel will motivate their students," said Kate Rau, the Manager of the Pelican Pub.
"We wanted to reach out to the community and try to make a difference in a small way," Rau added. |
