Pelican Pub & Brewery takes home "People's Choice" award at Florence Chowder, Blues & Brews Festival
MacPelican's Scottish Style Ale wins for the fourth year in a row!
PACIFIC CITY, OR— October 12, 1999—Nearly 4,000 beer and chowder enthusiasts crowded the Florence Event Center on September 26th to sample the finest beers from four of Oregon's premier microbreweries. When the votes were tallied, the Pelican Pub & Brewery garnered the "People's Choice" award-for the fourth year in a row-with their popular amber brew, MacPelican's Scottish Style Ale.
"MacPelican's is popular because it delivers full-bodied, tasty flavor with exceptioanl smoothness and drinkability," says Pelican Head Brewer, Darron Welch. "And I suspect that people around here have an affinity for MacPelican's because Scottish Ales were developed in environments much like the Oregon Coast."
MacPelican's Scottish Ale is coppery-amber in color and features a smooth, malty aroma. Its maltyiness is balanced with Willamette hops and a touch of roasted barley, which impart a colorful snap to the beer's flavor and finish.
"The Pelican has a brewing staff of two: my able assistant, David Mecklam, and myself," says Welch. " So winning this award reaffirms our belief that good beer is more about imagination than manpower."
In addition to taking home the "People's Choice" award, the Pelican Pub & Brewery also won second place among ten restaurant entries for their traditional clam chowder.
